* Indicates Orange County Democratic Party event
* Tuesday, June 23rd - 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The Orange County Democratic Party is hosting an information forum on Chapel Hill's new system of Voter Owned Elections. The party invites all residents to learn how potential candidates for public office can use this publicly financed system to help finance the costs of running for office. Introductory remarks will be made by Gene Nichol, former Dean of the UNC Law School. There will be additional presentations by Common Cause, Democracy North Carolina and a panel discussion. The Town of Carrboro has asked the State Legislature for the right to have Voter Owned Elections in their town, and Carrboro residents are encouraged to attend as well to learn how this system works. Location: Chapel Hill Town Council Chambers at 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Thursday, June 25th - 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The Orange County Democratic Women will hold its monthly general meeting. Chris Fitzsimon, of NC Policy Watch, will speak on health care reform. The public is invited to attend. Meeting Location: OWASA Community Room, on the lower floor of the Administration Building, 400 Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro. Saturday, June 27th - 9:00 am - 10:15 am. OC3 is holding a Yes We Cans Food drive in Hillsborough and needs volunteers. It will benefit OCIM (Orange Congregations in Mission) and the people of northern and central Orange County. Wal-Mart, Food Lion and Lowe's have graciously allowed OC3 to hold a food drive at their locations -- but they need lots of volunteers. If you are interested in helping out, contact Karen Lyles (Cheeks) at momlyles@yahoo.com. There will be another food drive on the 27th at the Farmers Market in Carrboro, and at TWIG in Chapel Hill, 99 S Elliot Rd in Chapel Hill (right next to Whole Foods).
* Saturday, June 27th - 9:00 am - 10:15 am. Orange County Democratic Breakfast. Location: Occoneechee Steak House, 378 S. Churton, in Hillsborough. The Orange Democratic Breakfast meets on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month for an hour and fifteen minutes. It provides a regular, informal, and congenial setting where we discuss politics with fellow Democrats. We have occasional speakers or programs, and we may decide to undertake certain projects. The direction is up to the participants.
