Orange Democrats Take Stand on Amendment 1
ORANGE COUNTY DEMOCRATS VOTES OFFICIALLY TO OPPOSE AMENDMENT 1
Joins the Coalition to Protect N.C. Families
Monday evening, the Orange County Democratic Party voted to officially oppose Amendment 1 slated for the May 8 primary.
“Tonight the Orange County Democratic Party came out against discrimination in our state’s constitution. Constitutions should protect rights, not reduce the rights of North Carolina families – regardless of sexual orientation. This amendment would be bad for North Carolina and plays politics with our families. Additionally, this amendment would prevent Orange County, Carrboro, and Chapel Hill from providing the same-sex partner benefits they currently give,” Chair Matt Hughes said.
The Orange County Democratic Party also voted to become a member of the Coalition to Protect N.C. families to work actively against Amendment 1.
