OCDW's first 2012 program will celebrate Black History Month.  On February 23rd, learn about Fairview, an historically African-American community, by joining us for Fairview: Its Heritage and Bright Future.   We'll hear from residents and community leaders about how this Hillsborough neighborhood began, its 20th century history of challenges and triumphs and its 21st century future as Fairview engages residents and collaborates with the larger Hillsborough community to envigorate and strengthen the neighborhood.

 

The program panel will include long-time Democratic leader and actvist Dorothy Johnson, pastor and community leader Rev. William Richardson of First Community Baptist Church in Hillsborough, and Gwen Jordan, president of the Northern Orange NAACP and OCDW member.  OCDW President Renee Price will moderate the panel discussion.

We look forward to seeing you at 7pm in the Hillsborough HeadStart training center meeting room (Building D) in Fairview, a proud example of how American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds are benefiting residents in Orange County. 

 

DIRECTIONS:  Easy!  From the eastern part of the county:Take Hwy 70west and turn Right onto Lawndale.  From the western part of the county, stay on Hwy 70 west and take a left onto Lawndale. Fromsouth of Hillsborough, go through town on Churton Street, turn LEFT onto Hwy 70 west and turn RIGHT onto Lawndale.   The HeadStart complex is on your right on Lawndale, and our meeting room is in building D.

Reminder:   2012 OCDW membership renewals are due between now and April 1. With a renewal, all members will receive a new OCDW pin.
