Last night, August 28, the OCDP's Executive Committee endorsed a vote FOR the 1/2 cent sales tax to benefit transit in Orange County. This transit tax will fund improved bus services throughout Orange County, bus infrastructure support, an Amtrak station in Hillsborough, and light raleigh. The plan is comprehensive and will benefit transit options to and from Hillsborough, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, and Mebane. Most importantly this plan is forward thinking towards Orange County's present and future transit needs as a community.

There are some exemptions from this tax, including prescription medication, groceries, gasoline, certain agricultural supplies and motor vehicles. A full listing of these exemptions may be found here:  North Carolina General Statute 105-164.13 and General Statute 105-164.13B

This referendum will be on the 2012 General Election ballot.
